Looking at other people's family's photos is beyond boring, except for that one pic out of a thousands which is priceless comedic gold. Awkward Family Photos is a collection of all those "one" photos from thousands of families, and it's beyond hysterical. So, here's to you AFP, and Thank You!

Minus Movie Rec.:

Ever wonder where babies come from? Now, ever wonder how they get the babies out from where they come from and who makes a buck getting them out? Well, this insightful (and a lil controversial) documentary from Rickie Lake and her pregger friends will answer these questions for you. Rickie clears up the myths of giving birth, focuses on the steep decline in the craft of midwifery, and most importantly, describes the practices that hospitals are capitalizing on within the birthing business, all to achieve maximum profits of course. Pretty much, anyone who is thinking of giving birth one day needs to watch this...for reals... Srsly.

Church Bloopers:

Along with sexually abusing helpless little children, the Catholic church is also abusing young children's rights to artistic freedom. This image was taken by a 10 year-old photographer named Jackson Potts II. The photo was to be apart of the Stations of the Cross display during lent for a church in Texas. The church deemed the photo too controversial for the art show and the young photographer is begging just to show his work at some point during one of the church's upcoming art shows.

The church said the photo is disturbing and could frighten children. And that is the sound of the pot calling the kettle black.

Disturbing Strokes

It's a different Different Strokes theme song. I think this one was a better fit for the show:

Lord, Have Mercy On Us.

This is an honest-to-God painting hanging in an Oklahoma Church. They said the devil would one day infiltrate the church, and pop out of Jesus' loin cloth and say "Hi" in the form of a monster cock. This must have something to do with all the molestings that took place within the church. Maybe this is a clue that will unlock the mysterious reason as to how those poor priests were forced to molest those slutty little alter boys.

Seriously though. There's soooo much spelling out the End of Days, i.e. Justin Bieber, Michael Jackson's death, Britney Murphy's death, the Big Mac Snak wrap, HDR Photography and now this...Adobe's new feature in Photoshop- "Content Aware: Fill". Never worry about taking a bad photo again! What could be even scarier is what has already been done by the military with this application. You know they did something.

Ok. Watch here. Crazy. We thought it was fake...Is it?

NBC's The Starting Over House

C'mon really? This show was about women who had screwed up their lives so much that they had to press the reset button. RE Diculous! Seems like drug addicts, the grossly overweight and people awakening from comas are the luckiest people. They all get to start over. All the rest of us just get to deal with depression until something comes into our lives that jolts us out of our funk. Anyway, at least watch this 1st clip. I don't know if this woman really started anything over. I think she just was on the show for free lodging.

The Funking Polish!

Franek Kimono - Dysk DĹĽokej

For the past couple years I've been on an Italo Disko bender. Since I'm 50% Italian and 50% polish, I decided I'd give my galumpki eating side some attention. What i discovered was only up until recently, there has been no wide distribution of polish disco music from the 70's and 80's. A few compilations are floating around and I found this 12" of killer cosmic perogie funk edits here . Listen to a track from said 12" above from a duo called Franek Dysk. One of the guys was a musician and the other was an actor....in Poland so you won't know who they are. Well, it turns out Polish Disko isn't too far off sounding like Italo Disko. Because this is a competition, like all things in life, I'm going to have to go with the Polish on which one I think sounds better. But the Italians are still winning in the food department.

Give it up for EBONY magazine

At a time when large print outlets are on the decline and widely distributed magazines are really not being really creative with their front cover, BOOM, out pops Ebony's cover with a shot of Sade. Simple and clean. This cover totally jumped off the rack. Shot by Sophie Muller who normally directs music videos, this cover will be a memorable one for people that other than just Sade fans.

OMG! They're gonna turn us into robots!

We're not kidding. It's coming. Hopefully this will be realized after all of our generations' youthful energy is gone and they can just let us be old and slow and human because seriously, look at what we're doing NOW to make a buck. Unless you're super rich you're just a cog but you look human still. With this new technology we soon will all look like Robocop and our whole lives will be hooked up to machines and we will be making someone who still looks human a WHOLE BUNCH OF MONEY. Ahhhhhh!

Skinput, ewww, cool.

Oh those Tough Shits.

The Tough Shits, one of The Minus World's favorite bands is going to be playing@ Kung Fu Necktie (oddly named venue, great shows) Make sure you get to see them. If you need to stay for the Blood Feathers do so but we think you won't need to after seeing THE TOUGH SHITS! HAHA! We suggest getting there @9:00p to get kinda close to the stage and to make sure you drink what you can before because its going to be a bitch trying to get back to the bar from the stage.

And if you can't get enuff of them at Kentucy Fried Necktie or have become a traveling fan, head down to The Black Cat in D.C to see them play again with The Blood Feathers.

An Incomplete Concept

House music producer, Matthew Herbert, is know for thinking up uncanny concepts for his work as a dance music producer. On 2001's Bodily Functions, Herbert sampled noises from the human body, mutated and processed some to unrecognizable proportions while leaving other sounds untouched, and crafted a danceable piece of work. With Herbert's 2006 album, Scale, Matthew recorded his musician playing their parts in, lack of better words, extreme conditions: one drummer was recorded playing underwater, another while flying in a hot air balloon, and another while riding in a car going 100 miles an hour. He also filled the album with field recordings of sounds like gas pumps, switches levers and the sort.
On his newest project, Herbert is at work making an audible life "journey" of a pig, which you'll be able to dance to of course. The concept is to make an audible documentation of a pigs life, set to electronic dance music. Except not everyone is happy with his latest piece of work. The thing is, Hebert could not find a slaughter house/butcher who would allow him to record the dying squeals of the pig he was documenting. People deemed it unethical and butchers were weary of Herbert's motives with the recordings. But anyway, the show must go on. Matthew Herbert will release the oinky album without the death sounds but all other pig-life sound intact...morphed and mutated into groovy house beats. You can follow the progress of this project over at the Herbert Pig Blog . A release date has not been set for the album yet.

SPOILER ALERT!

The pig is dead.

Here's the newly released video for Caribou's first single from his new album, Swim, due April 20th, 2010:

Uhhh...The Morning Benders???

So yes, we follow things Philebrity posts. Some people think everything they post is awesome. We, obviously don't. We don't think everything sucks, but there have been somethings that really puzzle us. Like this plug for The Morning Benders. Well maybe its just a promotion for a Johnny Brenda's show. Maybe they get paid to promote JB's shows? Friends? Huh, can't figure this one out. Listen:

Yours Truly Presents: The Morning Benders "Excuses" from Yours Truly on Vimeo.

Has he listened to Sam Cooke? Mr. Cooke did it better and maybe this kid should use the best as a jumping off point instead of recreating something that has already been done and done better.

Boring. Watch out, these guys are going to be popular. We mean that with no sarcasm.

What Snow?

To save money Philadelphia should just shutdown until winter is over.

If you're snowed in with nothing to do, this can occupy your time: Blood Simple. Maybe the best Cohen Bros. movie.

Ahhh...Barnaby Furnas

It's the motion.

Hamburger Hill, 2002. Urethane on linen, 182.9 x 304.8cm

--"Furnas's works on paper from the last three years demonstrate the same seductive violence as the large canvases that first brought him attention. His vibrant, fractured compositions and confident surfaces-here primarily watercolor, sometimes deployed in concert with ink and urethane--suggest the cartoonish figures of Philip Guston (or Carroll Dunham, with whom he studied) put through some kind of spatiotemporal shredder. All splintered forms and great geysers of bodily fluids, Furnas's images emphasize the link between carnage and carnality; something in their constituent elements brings this connection to vivid life." -http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0268/is_3_42/ai_110913985/

Can Food Be Racist?

?uestlove Tweeted this pic from the NBC studios earlier this week claiming he was insulted or something by the racial insensitivity over at NBC for making a special meal for Black History Month. The chef who come up with the conceptual lunch, is black and even she didn't understand the controversy surrounding her soul food. My only argument here is, how can food make someone so upset? If there was an Italian History month, and they served gnocchi with marinara sauce at my work, I'd be stoked and pleased to eat it. I guess there can be that argument collard greens and fried chichen aren't black food, but you can also throw around the argument that pasta isn't Italian. Also, wouldn't you agree with me that this is definitely a menu you would find at a "soul food" restaurant, and most soul food places are run and owned by black people? Let's just let food be. Be happy you have a meal to eat and not cry about it being racist. I guess the looming worldwide food shortages and much more prevalent food riots taking place around the world have been on my mind and causing me to defend my favorite necessity, food.
If you don't agree with me, I'd love to hear your comments. I'm not Black, so I may be missing something here that would cause someone to be upset.

Trainwreckage

I'm posting this video for laughs and Black History Months. Now, before you get your collard greens in a bunch, I don't think Lindsay Lohan has anything to do with Black History at all. I'm posting this video for my love of my girl Niecy Nash, the interviewer here. Niecy Nash was my favorite on the now defunct show Reno 911, and her personality has the ability to make me sit through that Clean House Show, and I actually laugh (albeit, i'm usually stoned.). I heard the way she got the part on Reno 911 was she went into audition, did her thing, and when she was done and got the feeling the producers weren't too impressed or "blown-away" by her acting skills, she begged to get the part and pleaded with the producers saying "i need this job! I gotta feed my baby!" So, they gave in and look where she's at now! She is that rare TV personality who gets paid to just be themselves. You Go Girl!

You can watch the whole interview here
or, watch some episodes of the late Reno 911here

I can listen to a whole album remix of the XX by Matthew Dear after listening to this infectious remix of VCR by the London threesome. Check out this rad video for the remixed track above.

Holdin it down for black folks...
